Frequently Asked Questions
-
The first step is reaching out through the contact form. We will schedule a free 15-minute initial consultation phone call to discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
Beginning therapy can feel both exciting and uncertain. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Curiosity is enough.

People seek therapy for many reasons. Some arrive with a specific challenge such as anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties, grief, or a major life transition. Others are not experiencing acute distress but feel a desire to understand themselves more deeply or create meaningful change in their lives.
Therapy can be helpful whenever there is something in your life, relationships, or inner experience that you wish to better understand, navigate, or transform.
Because we all come equipped with a complex and mysterious inner world - therapy can be a powerful, affirming, stimulating, and enlightening self-care practice for each and every one of us.

Research consistently suggests that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of successful outcomes in therapy. Having treated and connected with many hundreds of patients over the years, I can assure you - whether a therapist is the right fit for you is largely a matter of intuition and how you feel in relation to that therapist.
In addition to considering a therapist's experience and approach, it is important to ask yourself whether you feel comfortable, understood, respected, safe, and able to engage with openness and authenticity.
The initial consultation provides an opportunity to explore this further, and identify any questions that may help you feel clear. When I am not the best fit therapist, I am always happy to assist in seeking that person who is.

Most people do not need to know the specific therapeutic approach that is right for them before beginning therapy.
For insights on my particular orientations, details about my background and training are contained on the About page. That said, rather than focusing on treatment models, it is often most helpful to consider what you hope to gain from therapy and what qualities you value in a therapist.
During an initial consultation, we can discuss your goals and determine whether my approach is likely to be a good match for your needs.

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another.
We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant aspects of your personal history, and what you hope to gain from our work together. There is no expectation that you tell your entire life story in a single session. Instead, we begin where you are and allow the process to unfold over time.
Many people leave their first session with a greater sense of clarity, direction, and understanding of what their hopes are for their future self.
-
Many people begin therapy with a clear concern. Others arrive with a vague sense that something feels off, unfinished, or unexplored.
You do not need a perfectly defined goal to benefit from therapy. Often, part of the work is discovering the questions beneath the questions—clarifying what matters most, understanding recurring patterns, and identifying the changes that would make life feel more meaningful and fulfilling.
-
There is no universal timeline for therapy.
Some individuals seek support around a specific issue and engage in shorter-term work. Others pursue longer-term therapy focused on deeper patterns, personal growth, relationships, or ongoing self-understanding - in this instance, therapy may become an integrated and ongoing self-care ritual. Both approaches have validity and great efficacy.
The length of therapy depends on your goals and the nature of the work we are doing together. If working together, we would continuously explore and evaluate your timeline to ensure that your process aligns with your intentions and needs.
At Root & Reveal, there is a suite of services that each represent different approaches and timelines. For those who are interested in a more open-ended, holistic, organically unfolding process, individual therapy is an ideal setting. For those whose primary goals feel very specific, or for those who feel more able to commit to shorter-term work, and Immersion may be the ideal fit.
You do not need to know what approach is best for you, at the outset. This is something that we can explore together in our initial consultation.

My work is grounded in psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy and informed by advanced psychoanalytic training. Together, we explore both present-day challenges and the deeper emotional and relational patterns that shape your experience.
While insight is an important part of the process, our work also focuses on creating meaningful change in daily life, relationships, and overall wellbeing.
